Well just another day in paradise right? The Offshore fleet really did outstanding again today! We had a few in a little earlier than normal but in general most of the offshore guys were in at their normal times. Today was all about Yellowfin Tuna again with some really nice Dolphin catches mixed in. Some of the boats have produced more than a thousand pounds of Tuna for their customers in the last two days! Really impressive work by the Captains, mates, and Anglers. Today’s catches were made up of way above average size Tuna. We filed citations for a few 70 to 81 pound Yellowfin Tuna today. Tomorrow promises to be another good day with almost the entire Offshore and Nearshore fleets heading out. One of the Offshore boats had a really large Blue Marlin come into their spread but couldn’t get her to commit. It looks like the Palegics have finally realized what time of year it is and the flood gates have fully opened for the first wave of Yellowfin heading north. We have quite a few of our Captains heading to fish the Big Rock Tournament this coming weekend. We still have a good amount of charters available through the weekend though.
The Near shore fleet did really well today too. There were limits of Spanish Mackerel and good size Bluefish caught today. Like yesterday the conditions were less than desirable for sight fishing Cobia. However, there were a good amount of nice Cobia brought back to the docks today. Some of our private boats did really well catching Cobia just south of the inlet today. I hope the fishing for them continues to be as consistent after Friday evenings front comes through. Cobia are a permanent summer time guest here on the outerbanks. But the massive schools that come through in the Spring hold the best chances for an Angler to hook up with one.
A good amount of Puppy Drum were caught this morning mixed in with the Speckled Trout catches. Most were under the 18" size restriction but are still always exciting to hook into. The huge amount of Trout in the sound this year makes things very promising for years to come. Unlike many species, Speckled Trout begin to spawn in late Spring and continue almost nightly throughout the entire Summer. A single Female can produce a million eggs to be fertilized in one night. They definately have evolved to be survivors through shear numbers.
Our Captains do an outstanding job of making the fishing experiece as worry free and easy as possible for Anglers that have never fished before to the seasoned veteran. Call us and we will take care of the rest!
