If your reading this and your down here right now, you sure picked a great week to vacation! At the beginning of the week I looked at our posted weather report and thought someone was pulling my chain. Everyday was light winds either south or southwest. This has lead to the classic example of, you can’t have your cake and eat it too! Although the offshore guys are still catching decent catches of both Yellowfin and Dolphin, the numbers aren’t quite what they have been over the last week or two. Typically there is a small transition time during the spring. The fishing is tremendous then it can be a little slower on some days. Today things are average then tomorrow the offshore fishing could be unbelievable. That’s when the experience of a seasoned Capt can really be an asset to a fishing party. Like yesterday after catching some Tuna and Dolphin quite a few of the offshore boats caught some really nice Tilefish and Seabass. This ensured that, along with the excitement of catching Yellowfin and Dolphin, all the fishing crews went home with coolers full of fish today. A couple of Wahoo were caught and a small Mako was released also today.
Inshore things have really exploded. If you look at the updated Satellite sea surface temps, you can see where the warm 72 degree water has pushed up along the coast to just a few miles south of Oregon Inlet. The Inshore guys ran into massive schools of Cobia at roughly that temp break. Needless to say those trips are booking super fast so if you want to get into that action you’ll want to book that trip asap. We do have some spots open on full charters and make ups. Hopefully this years Cobia run will last a few weeks and everyone will get an oppurtunity to get in on it. Blues and Spanish Mackerel catches have been really good too.
All you need to do is show up with your own food and drinks. The Captains take care of all your tackle, license requirements, and bait.
